Set it to skim drier and get some more stuff in your tank... that is like 15 minutes of skim mate at my house.

Orange is just brown that is diluted with too much tankwater.

what do you mean with more stuff? more biolad?

its a 40 gallon with 3 nano fish running GAC

Basically, your skimmate is more on the wet side. Try skimming a bit drier and it should be darker.
