Anyone here have one or had one ? Are they hard to get trained to eat anything other than acros?

I have one currently, going on about a year in my tank. When I first got him he was not eating. I used a gel food mixture smeared on a dead acro skeleton and then transitioned to just gel food, then frozen small mysis, then flake and pellets so now in a bind he will eat pretty much anything. His color really changed over this period too and became much more vibrant. I don't have any acros in my tank but pretty much everything else. He picked at my frogspawn for a little bit but now pretty much ignores it

I would really like this fish in my tank but I will need to come back to this forum and read what others have experienced with them. So I'm looking for more information first. I'll do more reading and research on my own also before committing to purchase one or maybe a pair. To be honest, this is a very pretty fish to have in any aquarium.

I have some questions for anyone who can help out if you do have this situation presented. I see the size of this fish is more or less like wrasses, so has anyone had theirs harassed by any wrasse? Can they or will they become community fish mate? Are they fast or slow swimmers? What's there behavior like, shy or aggressive to each other or any other tank mates? I already read on how @Setlock13 did his feeding tips and that was very helpful but if anyone can place more information on any feeding habits also, then that will be helpful to.

I'm taking full advantage of this forum/comments because we are all here to help each other in any way we can. I know people's experience is a plus when it comes to getting these issues out in the open.

Thanks for this post Reef2Reef community and any information is greatly appreciated.

Hi @mrjlopez731, I can give a little bit more info on mine. He is in a tank with a dusky wrasse, sailfin blenny, african leopard wrasse, and lightning maroon clown. He is very peaceful and does his own thing in the tank, they are slower swimmers but have seem him really dart towards food at times. I have read about them being aggressive towards each other if not added at the same time if you are planning on getting more than one. I can't speak to having multiples i.e. female-male , female-female, and male-female relationships in a tank though

Sustainable aquatics had some tank raised ones for sale that ate pellets don't know if they still do or not seen they YouTube video this morning

Any updates/ new experiences people can weigh in on. I've been seeing pairs of these on divers den and they're slowly starting to really interest me. As in they may be the most attractive fish I've seen in a long time. Would love to also learn more about the species

I had a female for 5-6 years. By far, one of my favorite fish EVER. Once settled in and well conditioned, they are a hardy and brave fish. I really haven't heard much about DD's OSFF, despite them selling quite a few of them for some time. I'm wondering if they still aren't fairing well, even if trained to frozen.

I got mine before DD started carrying them and it was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do in this hobby. You really have to want one, to put the required work into training and conditioning them. But if it's something you want, it's one of the most rewarding things you can do. I think I high-fived myself for an entire month. LOL!

She packed on the weight when she started taking frozen food and pellets.

Before and After...
