Any good ideas how to get orange spot goby out of tank? He is tearing my tank up. Piling sand on low rocks and corals. Sifting sand away from front of tank etc. impossible to net without tearing tank apart. I’ve tried a tank mates fish trap he won’t go near it. I’m thinking of not feeding tank for 2 days then try putting pellets in trap. Any other good ideas appreciated.

I have an orange spotted goby, he doesn’t do any digging at all, but his bff pistol shrimp does all the work,, he will settle down eventually, sounds like he’s is trying to find a safe place…

Not sure he’ll settle down he’s been in tank almost 3 months and it is a constant battle with me blowing off rock and corals and leveling sand bed and him digging and piling up sand in just a couple of hrs.

are you referring to an orange spotted shrimp goby or a diamond goby? Both have spots. It sounds like your are referring to a diamond goby. They are digging machines and will pile sand and dig everywhere whenever they want. I have two of them. As far as catching it, a trap would not work due to it doesnt really chase food. The only time mine would be catchable is when they are frightened, they tend to leave the bottom and head to the top of the water column in preparation to jump.

@SlugSnorter Could be the issue, ive got a 3 in sand bed and mine still piles and digs caves, but I prefer it. Pearly white sand bc of him lol. Generally they just dig like crazy. love em or hate em.

Yeah, your diamond goby is doing what diamond gobies do. Nothing you have done wrong or could do differently. Catching from my perspective would be a watch and get lucky kind of ordeal. They sift all day to get all the goodies out of the sand.

Aren't orange spots watchman gobies?

Yep. diamond goby. Im sorry you were sold something different than what you wanted, but let me tell you. I love mine. Im used to blowing off rocks and corals, but the service he provides and the personality I appreciate greatly.
