I recently got what we thought was a rock with some fuzzy mushrooms and a bunch of zena on it(I know, but my wife likes it). It turned out that the zena was covering up a bunch of what I think is still alive bright neon green candy canes and a couple little things. I managed to catch one but have no idea what they are. Both are about an inch to inch and a half and look to be the same thing. Normal they are not curled up like the one I caught.

It looks really cool!

If its a cucumber it should have a defined anterior and posterior region (mouth and anus). From what I can see this looks like an amputated ray from a star since...
A. One end it thicker than the other (indication of tapering)
B. Tube feet extend all the way to the skinny tip
C. Ventral side curves up and folds inwards on itself which is a characteristic of sea star distal tips

They are both almost identical and have been in the tank since Sunday with no signs of dying. Will amputated arms live that long/grow into new star fish?

So I was looking at random stuff on R2R and came across this post. Was it a starfish arm and did it grow a whole new starfish?
