Hello!

Just curious if any of y’all know what this little dude is, it just popped up but now it’s a little bigger and I’m not sure if I should just kill it by removing it or leave it be.

Thanks!!

Some type of hermit. remove until it can be identified.

Sort of looks like a chiton, but not quite.

Also sort of looks like a vermetid snail, but not quite.

I know it's tough, but can you post more photos?

For sure, I’ll get in there with the GoPro tomorrow and get a good video or something and try that! Or just try and get different angles with the phone

edit: I tried to pry it off and it didn’t move so I think maybe it’s a calcium shelf of some sort, like how mushrooms form. Not sure, oh well.

Right now I agree with the barnacle assumption but I'll wait for more pictures. Last time I called it too early, what looked like a gooseneck barnacle turned out to be a spawning stomatella snail.;Facepalm ;Dummy

I didn't think of barnacle, but that might be correct. It sure looks like one.

The thing that made me think Vermetid snail was the brown part at the base, where it is connected to the rock. But it is a pretty good size, so if you do a feeding and do not see some spider web like material coming out to try and get the food, probably not a vermetid.

Most fo the things mentioned so far are good (or at least neutral) hitchhikers. But if it's a vermetid, you want it out of there.

Nice feather dusters, by the way. Were those hitchhikers?
