So I've been looking at these yellow tangs at my lfs. As you can see in the pictures some of their stomachs are pinched. But I was hoping to be able to pick a good one. But I also noticed some of them have an orange color to them. Is this what septicemia looks like? What do you guys think?

Not easy to see colors in the pic but I would say it doesn’t look like septicemia at least, although in some cases it doesn’t have to have any external symptoms.

Were the tangs lethargic or not eating?

Sometimes the discoloration is caused by osmotic shock; other times it can be the beginnings of a bacterial infection. Do you know how long your LFS has had those tangs?

The LFS always seems to have one large tank full of yellow tangs. Ive been looking at them since the summer but I'm sure some have gone and new ones have been added. I believe he gets his fish from a larger store in Chinatown in NYC. This store is in a neighboring borough. They always have an orange hue to them. In the pic the one in lower right corner has it towards its back body. The top middle of the pic has it along its dorsal fin and body. And the tang in the middle of the pic on the very bottom is orange along his belly. They were not lethargic although some had the pinched belly look. I didnt ask to see them eat because im always taken aback by the orange color.
