Hello!

My tank dimensions are 35.5" x 19.5" x 21.5" (Cadlights 68) and I'm currently using a 36-48" Orbit Marine Pro LED. I love the light's colors and spread, but the light penetration isn't great for my dream of having a mixed reef (LPS and softie dominant with some SPS) tank.

I was thinking of adding a single Kessil 360 WE fixture.

What do you folks think?

How high are you going to mount the kessil? It may be hard to get useful coverage over almost 3 feet. If you're going to keep the sps on one side you can just use the kessil over half the tank but it may or may not be noticeable.

I use 3 kessils over my 5 foot tank and from time to time I think about adding more. I do have a black box between 2 where I have some higher light corals and even though the light is not balanced across my tank it's not really noticeable.

I was thinking of doing the same thing with the orbit IC lights and A160s. Right now, I have two 18” orbit strips and 1 A160- the orbits on one side and the Kessil on the other.

Right now my Orbits are about 8 inches above the water. I was thinking of sliding them back a few inches (they are centered right now) and using the Kessil's gooseneck arm to lean the Kessil 360WE over the Orbits and shine in front of them (aiming for the center of the tank).

Hello,

I have two of the orbit marine pros 72 inch in my 240 tank that is 34 inches tall. With a professional par meter I am almost 200 par on the sand bed. I have grown sps like crazy and even Maximus clams as well. These lights are just as powerful as the kessills if not more. These lights are not designed to be hung, per say. They are meant to sit on top of the tank, and have 60 degree lens. I use two of them to cover the width of my tank. But I have never had issues with my tank being 34 inches tall. I also have some higher end sps that are doing very well in my tank.

I’m not sure what your trying to do, but have researched these lights to an exhaustive level. I’m more than happy to help you figure out what’s going on. I have posted some pics of my 240, which my tank is only 7 months to 7 and a half months old.

Sincerely
Sarah

Wow! Nice tank, Sarah! :-)

I'm just looking to supplement my single strip of 36-48" Orbit Marine Pro LEDs with another, slightly more powerful fixture. I like the idea of using a single Kessil 360WE mounted over the middle of the tank with the Orbit Marine Pro providing additional spread/coverage ... as well as moonlights and a sunrise/sunset feature. My tank is about 14 months old and even with good, consistent water parameters my coral growth has been marginal.

I started my 65 gallon mixed reef with one 24" orbit marine pro. It was good but a little too much shadowing so I got a kessil 360 to supplement lighting and I wasn't too happy with how the spectrums mixed. So I used to kessil on my frag tank and got another orbit pro. I went with the 36"er this time and I love the spread now!
