Im setting up a 15g aio tank. I only want to keep two fish in the tank. I was wondering if I could keep 1 clown and 1 orchid dottyback in the same tank. If I can which should I put in first for the least aggression

I think both are semi aggressive but I’d think add the dotty back first. I know mine likes his place in the scape and my clowns could care less about the scape. So I’d assume let the dotty back get his spot first before adding the clown.

How many gallons is yours? I've heard mean things about dottybacks

Mine is in a 75 gallon. You should consider a pistol shrimp goby pair instead of the dotty back. I also have a 20 and wouldn’t consider a dottyback in it. I have a clownfish, goby pistol pair, fire fish, and tail spot blenny

For size problems or for just overall aggression? I'm willing to just not get a clown if that's the case

They're both territorial so I'd get the one that you want most, you could also get some smaller fish as well like a YWG and tiger pistol shrimp, clown goby, or yasha goby and pistol shrimp pair. Something that's more of a bottom dweller would fit in that tank with a clown or dottyback no problem since both of those are mid to top tank fish.

If you decide to do the pistol shrimp make sure your rockwork is sitting on the glass and not the sand, they just dig all day and can get crushed by falling rock.

Just a question. Ended up getting the orchid dottyback since I got tons of store credit. Added it about two days ago. I've seen it hiding in the caves and stuff but how long do they usually take to get settled in?

Mine took a couple days to get used to his new home.

They tend to stay in or very near the rocks most of the time and come out at feeding time. One of my favorite and must-have fishes. I have probably kept at least a half a dozen over the years and not really found them to be aggressive (unlike most other dotties), but I have never kept them in a tank as small as a 15 gal.

Mines been hiding in caves for the last few days. Hopefully it'll come out soon but if it doesn't within the next 3 days im gonna make a new post
