Hi Everyone!
This is my first post on the forum as I am just beginning to get back into the hobby. Very excited to start once again.
My background: had a 20g softie with minimal equipment that quickly got out of my price range and was time limited as I was leaving for college. I would say I had moderate success. Rehomed all live stock when I got out of the hobby.
Present day: Now that I am on my own with a larger budget, I have been dreaming of getting back into the hobby. After extensive research over the last month, I have decided to go with a standard 75g with a durso style overflow. I have at least two more months before I actually start the build but my question was, what is the order of operations once it is plumbed and powered on? Should filtration equipment be added incrimentally or all at once?
I’m fairly confident in my understanding of cycling (starting with ~30lbs of cured live rock and ~60lbs of dry rock, some will go in the sump). I have yet to pick a sump, but want a refugium. Long term goal would be softies and a few LPS and probably will keep the tank lightly stocked fish wise (only real must-have is a black ocellaris pair hosted in a BTA) .
Do I add the refugium after cycling has finished? How about the skimmer, carbon/gfo reactors, when do I begin dosing (kalkwasser in ATO)? Etc.
Basically, I just wanna know what the proper long term set up procedure so I don’t make the mistake of adding equipment too early/late and adding fish and corals too early/late of essential equipment. Interested in reading different thought processes.
Thanks!!
