I just ordered a Gyre off BRS and I'm excited!

I have primarily an LPS coral tank. My question is.. During the night, can I have the Gyre on full blast? I have seen people who do the random/pulsating modes during the day and during the night just have it at full 100% blast.

What kinda of benefits does this have? Will it hurt my LPS corals? I have hammers and Torches and some other softies. No SPS yet because my light isn't strong enough.

I would say it depends on the size of your tank whether it can handle being blasted 100% without damaging corals or rearranging your sand bed.

I went the easy route and followed the OTC preset and set the max to 90% and min to 40% in my 125.

I have a 125. Just the standard 6 foot. I am currently using just the Hydor 1125. I have 2 on my tank. I have some deadspots which is the reason for upgrading. Thought about just getting the hydor remote but just went ahead and got the gyre... lol

Observation will be your best tool, I run two Gyres 250s linked to one controller at opposite ends of my tank (the 125 is also 6') and found that 100% was too strong as my sand would start moving and my euphyllia didn't appreciate it. 80-90% seemed to be a good max for me.

If you are using 230s you may need 100%.

I run 2 of the xf230's in my red sea reefer 525xl mounted on opposite ends of the tank pointed towards the surface and I don't run them any higher than 40% in the forward direction otherwise the flesh will start pulling away from my hammers. I can say that coming from vortechs these gyre's push way more water and in many different ways when paired with the advanced controller. Also don't believe all the negative about running it in the reverse mode, some people will say it's useless but I can tell you it isn't. I ran my gyre's only in the forward motions for the first couple months on my tank and then played around with the controller ending up on the setting where it will also run in reverse and watching my tank after it hit 80% in reverse on both sides stirred up a significant amount of detritus that wasn't being cleared out of the rockscape in the forward motions. Of course your specific aquascape and coral placement will dictate your percentages.

Ohh also another note to make...they are pretty loud fresh out of the box however, it is true that they get quieter overtime.

i have 2 XF130s in my 90 and I run them in the LTC mode it pulses up to 100%. I can tell you if I run them at 100% the corals dont like it. Everything closes up and it stirs up the sand bed. pulses up to 100% are ok but sustained runnign in my tank over ~80% things start to get unhappy. I have mostly LPS and Zoas.
