Actually my 425 didn’t come with hose. I thought the LFS guys misplaced it when building the stand for me, but turns out only the 250 and 170 includes hose. Dumb, right... for $5 if that of material.

So the union fitting is 1” where the piece screws into the bulkhead under the overflow. The barb is funny, it looks like the tip is 3/4” and then it gets bigger, like it could accept either 3/4” or 1” hose. I would use hose clamps for either case. The silicone hose I bought fits fairly snug on the 3/4” barb tip but I can also push it a bit more over the wider section.

Silicone hose. I got 10’ with free shipping. You can get shorter but it ends up almost as much without free shipping. Much cheaper than BRS.

I'm stressing a tiny bit about getting this big heavy tank into my office. It's me and one other guy here - hopefully we'll be able to manage .

I got the XL425 awhile back and it comes in a crate. Open the crate and bring it in piece by piece and 2 people can do it no problem. LFS delivered mine with 2 guys bringing it in my house like that. I did all the assembly of the cabinet on my own and then had my brother come over to help me put the tank on the stand. It's heavy, but very manageable that way.

My LFS built the stand at the shop and then brought it assembled into my house and the tank was in the box. They used those big suction cups to carry the tank from the truck and put it on the stand.

I bought a few feet of braided PVC tubing, 3/4" ID. Dip the end in really hot water so it gets soft and really flexible and it goes right on the barbed fitting. Then use a clamp on it and good to go. Think I paid maybe $10 at Menard's for the hose, but I bought more than needed.

You and one other guy will handle it no problem! Myself, my brother in law and my old man carrying my 200dd (48"x 36"x 27") into my house and setting in the wall, now that was awkward and stressful! For some reason I thought having a stand at 42" was a good idea. Lol

Anyways, great decision on springing for the extra depth! I think it's totally worth it! Congrats on the new tank, those are beautiful setups!

Did you get it over the whole barb or just to the halfway point? Like I said earlier, it looks like the barb is half 3/4” and then 1” on the upper half.

About halfway up. I have had it this way for 18 months, no issues. I had 1" ID tubing for something else and tried it, but even with a clamp, I just didn't like how it sat on there. It probably would have been fine though.

I really should just hard plumb it since I have the parts sitting here.

I got mine delivered on the 2nd. Reef plus filling it this Friday.

You'll appreciate the extra room in the sump area as well, every little bit helps.

I just got a Reefer 350 second hand, amazing tank! Super easy to set up.... but YES, my biggest struggle is under the stand!

Lots of big rock.

You can use a chisel and hammer and break those into smaller chunks! It makes scraping more fun (imo). Then using acrylic tubes (or ever epoxy in a lot of cases) you can stack and make more dramatic scapes .i.e rock branching off in directions, tables, etc.

Yeah I am probably going to break some of them down a bit. I ordered more rock than I needed so I could choose what I did or didn’t want.

I went from a Red Sea Max 250 to an S500 and the extra width as well as size is a massive improvement.

My first reef was a 29 gallon and is over 2 years old. I’ve just done a lot of reading mostly. Some of it is common sense. Some of it is searching and reading here and other places. Some of it is just experience.
