I have noticed since I installed an Apex that everytime I feed the tank my ORP drops, I really don't use the ORP for anything, but found this interesting. Can someone please explain why this is and what, if anything, means.

ORP isn't the easiest concept to explain on a bumper sticker. Basically, decomposing organics drops the dissolved oxygen levels in the tank, which is reflected in the ORP going down. The same would happen if a fish or anemone died in the tank. That's one of the reasons that it's helpful to monitor.

Ughh... ORP... ;Blackeye
Is it safe to say you are adding frozen that you aren't rinsing?
ORP is a measure of the strength of oxidizers vs the strength of reducers in your aquarium. Vitamins, some oils, and organics in food are strong reducers and easily give off electrons. This causes ORP to drop.

LOL!!! I really don't care much about ORP, as I don't use it, but found it interesting.

I do feed frozen, but also noticed this morning that when I put in a nuri sheet it did the same thing.

I wouldn't have expected it to show that quickly with the nori. Any chance the nori is vitamin enriched?

2 little fishes nuri sheets. I split it and put it on 2 clips on either end of the tank.

Hmm.. it must break down much faster in water than I would have expected. Or maybe, more accurately, starts getting oxidized much more quickly than I would have expected.

The last drop was at 6 am this morning and I out the nuri in at 5:40 am.

Do you by chance stop your powerheads when you feed? That could be dropping your oxygen saturation in the tank more than the food...

When I feed frozen I do, but not with the nuri.

Ah, these are very small ORP swings. I was expected a bigger jump. I don't even bother calibrating my ORP sensor anymore, let alone actually look at the reading, but I used to see much bigger drops when I would dump in a bunch of unrinsed thawed food.
