I have 2 x Orphek Atlantic's with 2 x 120 reef blue light bars on my D&D 1500 pro reef reef tank. I have been experimenting with diffusers for the Atlantic's and this is what I came up with. Yes there is a reduction in PAR using diffusers but the colour mixing and diffusion is so much better. Here's a video of my lighting set up to date.

Nope I don't own a PAR meter.
How high are your lights off the waters surface? Mine are just 10" off my water surface if I had them at the recommended height of 16" I would get too much light spill into the room.
