Sooooooo... I'm in the process of getting my Reefer 525XL set up. I had planned on setting up 1 full sized atlantik next to 1 compact atlantic to get just the right coverage. Turns out I'm way too OCD about things being symmetrical, and I would lose my mind if I had one small light and one large light, not centered, hanging above my tank. So I'm going to sell my compact and just get another full sized to even it out.

My OCD is your gain, though. Box was just opened today, the plastic wrap was removed from the light, and the light was turned on for 30 seconds. Then everything was placed back in the box. In other words, pretty much brand new. And yes, this is Gen 2.

Can you control the light without the gateway?

The lights turn on without the gateway, but I don't think you can control the different settings. It might just be an on-off situation without the gateway.
