Orphek Atlantik v4 Gen 2 questions

I have been looking at upgrading my lights and I have on my list the EcoTech Radion XR30W G4 pro, Kessil AP700 and the Orphek Atlantik v4 Gen 2.

My tank is 36"width x 16"height x 12"depth

I have read that the Orphek Atlantik v4 Gen 2 has led's that are wasted spectrum in the same range as remote controls. Could anyone who has them or has technical knowledge that I lack chime in about them. What's your experience? Anyone have experience with both the Gen 1 and Gen 2?

I have the gen1 and they are a great light. One is perfect for 36" length of your tank.

I ended up getting a SB Reef Lights 32" Pro Timer version. I'm still weighing either the Kessil AP700 or the Atlantik v4 Gen 2 and less likely on the Radion XR30 G4 Pro. I really need to see them in person.

Are you referring to the IR light in the Atlantik? If so, that is hardly wasted spectrum, IMO, and could be the next big thing in LED lighting. People used to poo-poo UV light, but now nearly all good fixtures use them.

Orphek choose that diode special to stimulate energy transfer from PhotoSystem II to PhotoSystem I in what is call the Emerson Effect.

I do not use LED, so take this for what it is worth (not much), but if somebody forced me to use on, Atlantik V4 would be my choice (with RB Photon being second choice). IMO, the Atlantik v4 is actually the most advanced LED out there even though others claim this.

Just a quick note about Reef Builders: they are an advertising vehicle and a shill for people who pay them. Orphek does not pay them. If EcoTech put IR diodes in their lights, then Reef Builders would be telling everybody that they cannot live without this. Actually, expect to see this "article" when EcoTech follow Orphek's lead and adds them in the next generation.

Also, the ReefBuilders note about 380nm diodes being useless is either disingenuous or incompetent. Nearly every protein can use 380nm for energy and a good majority can use it and then spit back out lower energy wavelengths in the 400-410 range that are are very nice violet. You can get better growth and color with some UV down to about 350-360nm.

Have 2 on a 6ft tank and can grow anything anywhere in it with plenty left over. One would work on a 4ft tank depending what you want to grow where. From what I read, 350-360nm diodes are being used in many of the newer versions being put on the market by the bigger brands. Suggest watching the BRS video on the v4's.

Does BRS have a new video on the Gen 2? I've seen the Gen 1 video and that's what made me think I'd like to give them a try. I've seen the Kessil in person and have seen the growth so I know what im getting there. From what I've been told by friends the Orphek have more color pop and saturation than the Kessil which is why I'm not just purchasing the Kessil.

Pretty sure the only difference with the gen 2 is the app, not the lights themselves. So the video is applicable to both. Have had Kessils and agree that there is a little more pop with the V4's as well as more programming options. Either would work for what you want to do.

There are 2 versions of Orphek Atlantik V4 -- gen 1, and gen 2.

All V4 lamps have the exact same led layout; only different between gen 1 and gen 2 is the protocol that's being used to communicate with the gateway -- hence gen 1 lamps have a different gateway than the gen 2 lamps.

Orphek makes a great light as good as or better than a G4 XR30. Dont be concerned about it being a good light or enough coverage because it is and some. It really comes down to what you want an Orphek will provide more coverage with a single fixture and have more of a t5 look with no shimmer and well blended spread. It will take 2 or maybe 3 if you want no shadowing and total even coverage, A360 pendants to cover your tank and you will get an awesome shimmer from the single point light, Kessiel's dense matrix led provides great blending as well. 2 XR15s mounted high will work nicely as well. Most people want to mount lights at 12" or less and thats great for T5, VHO, PC and MH but for LED especailly fixtures that suffer from disco effect mounting higher up reduces disco effect and increases spread and reduses shadowing some. BRS and WWC have been ruuning G4 Radions up high at 16-18" with great results, reducing shadowing and the number of light needed while increasing spread. My LFS as uses G4 XR30s mounted high and in person it looks great and corals grow.

I really like it so far. It was half the price and after selling the lights that came with the tank I only spent $100 out of pocket. I'll still get a new light but it's a great way to get the spectrum and PAR I need now to get the color and growth out of my corals. I still want full ramping, dimming and app controls so I'll sell it later and get something once I make a decision

I have a gen 1 v4 and I love it. It replaced a SB reef which worked well but had hot spots which made it hard for me to place corals. I have a very shallow tank 24”x12” by 7” tall so even coverage was key. I also plan on upgrading to a tank that is 36”x18” by 14” tall and the v4 is a perfect light for that size.

I have all types of sps growing and the colors are great.

Hi, what about the Mitra 7206 lights, they have a better spread then the Radions, and have just as good or better Diodes and LED's then the Radions or anyone else, and are also cheaper then the Radions. These German made lights seem like a perfect light for a Reef Tank for someone who wants to use all LED's.

I have been very happy with my orphek over my 36x18 tank. I still feel these are the best LEDs you can buy and have run ecotech, AI, many kessils and reefbreeders BB and photon v2 in the past. None of those lights even come although I like AI's and kessils can be good for some applications.

I am pretty surprised reefbuilders disparaged 380nm as I am pretty sure they have sung kessil's praise before with their UV which is 390mn. From one of their articles:

We just happen to have a rarified Apogee UV meter and where the Hydra 26 is providing around 2.0 milliwatts of UV light around 8 inches underwater, a single Kessil A160we provides closer to 15.0 milliwatts of UV at the same depth. It’s precisely for this reason that the Kessil family of LEDs is our favorite spotlight to recommend to supplement existing lighting setups – more popping blues and a generous dose of fluorescence.

Hi guys, I am getting ready to buy my lights in order to finish up my new SCA rimless 150 that I have been working on for over 2 years. I want to go with an all SPS Doimantie type tank and I have heard and read a lot of good things about these light fixtures.
I was at first going to but the Maxspex Razor 300 watt light fixtures but @Bulk Reef Supply told me it would be tough to grow out an SPS tank with that fixtures so thats when I started looking into these @Orphek Company G2 version.
I am planning on running two of these over my 60''x24''x24'' size tank. What I love about these single fixtures by @Orphek is the amount of Coverage & Maximum Spread is perfect for a 5ft x 2dt x 2ft tank.

Would really like to see some setups with the @Orphek Fixture over your displays??
