I am still confused to whether the OR4 bars are wi fi dimmable straight out of the box or do they still need the separate controller like the OR3'S ?

They don't need a controller. They are controlled through the ICON app.

If you buy the standard OR4, the controller is built in and uses the same app as the Atlantik Icon and Natura Icon. We also have an OSIX device which will control up to six OR2,3 without the need for power supplies. There is one large power supply with the controller built in.

This eliminates the need for six power receptacles. You can use up to six lights with it. For more info you can contact [email protected]

From my understanding, they no longer offer that option. They all ship with the controllable ballast. My sells rep told me that his home office told him that it wasn't an option due to they are all ready packed up with the wifi ballast and it was too expensive to unpack them and reseal the box

I rented a PAR meter from BRS and measured the Orphek setup I have on my 100 gallon reef tank. As you can see in the photos I added a sixth row of OR3 daylights and run them on a timer for four hours a day. I dialed back the rest of the lights to 75% in the middle of the day. The PDF spreadsheet shows the measurements I took at 100% and 75% intensity. The water depth is in percentage of depth, which matches the painters tape in the photos. I then went from left to right creating a grid. X's are where rock was in the way and a measurement could not be taken. This gives me a good road map of what the lights are producing at any part of the tank. With the new addition of the daylight strips I seem to be getting a lot of bleaching in some corals and fast growth in others. SPS corals are a love hate relationship sometimes.

With the addition of the daylight which would increase the par, I would suggest you use the acclimation program on this light. A sudden change in intensity or spectrum can stress coral which can lead to bleaching. The zooxanthellae in coral are acclimated to the given intensity and spectrum and therefore cannot instantly adapt to a sudden change. Zooxanthellae are what gives coral their color.

• Click on (ACCLIMATION) to access the Acclimation program settings..
• Set the start time for the Acclimation program and the time at which it will concluded.
• Recommended starting time: 08:00
• Time range: 08:00-23:00

Note: If the time is incorrectly set, a prompt will appear, instructing the user to choose a time between 08:00-23:00. It’s crucial to ensure that the programmed shutdown time for Acclimation is always later than the start time.

Operational Details:

• The Acclimation program runs continuously for 10 days.
• On the 11th day, the device’s light will revert to Program mode.

Intensity Progression:

• Day One starts with all channels at an intensity of 30%.
• Each subsequent day sees a 3% increase in light intensity.
• On the last day (Day 10), the intensity reaches 60%.

Glad to see a par map but I’m struggling to understand it. So you are only getting par that registers in the 100’s with 6 bulbs on 100%? What am I missing here?

Here is what we get with a lab quality par sensor. This is with four OR3-120 in a 48 x 24 tank 35" above the sensor.

I am getting as much as 700 PAR in the center at the surface level. The low numbers are in the corners near the glass. The reflectors seam to focus the light better without spillage so I can rotate the fixtures to get in the corners.

You were not misinformed, but I have not heard any news that the power supply on the OR4 has the built app Icon controller. So far I only have this information to give you. I should know by tomorrow if the power supply that comes with each unit has the controller built in. There has not been an official press release yet.

does somebody already got the OR4 Reef day? How is LED layout compared to OR3 Reef day? I got mine OR4 Reef day last week and it's completely missing red and orange and warm white LED's. It does only have cold white and 3 different blue ones (maybe also 2 differnenent LED's on chip). I'm wondering if this can be correct...
And what about the lens angle? I could not find if mine is 70 deg or 90 deg or something else...

I noticed the same thing with the OR4 Reef Days and was a very disappointed as I was trying to add more white light but got more blue instead. Orphek told me, "sorry no returns or exchanges". I am assuming they made the change because the OR3's do not blend all of the LED colors well across the tank. You get spots of red and orange instead.
