Osmolator nano crashed my tank?

Hi, so i have a fluval evo 13.5 with the tunze osmolator nano as a auto top off. I went on vacation and had my brother in law check my tank. When i came back, the back chambers were empty, my heater blew up so the tank dropped to 17.4 C.

Why did the ATO stopped working? The float was down, it had RO water. I simply unplugged it and plugged it back and now its running fine. I know there a timer safety but its not a big tank.

Hardware issue or am i missing something?

What kind of timer do you use? I have a mechanical timer that can go on 15min off 15min all day, but it could stay stuck on off position.

The reviews for the nano on BRS are pretty bad. I've avoided that model as a result. It's a bit strange given how awesome/rock solid the bigger model is.
