do any of you know where i can take an Onkyo Receiver to get repaired?

Oh that sucks.... there should be an electronics repair place in Nashville but sending to onkyo may be only hope. I have an onkyo and love it

It's 6months past the 2 yr warranty.

I've been reading about possible problems and just have to confirm the symptoms on the receiver when I get home. I might me able to fix it myself if its the HDMI board.

There aren't many repair shops any more and those that do exist tend to be expensive to the point its not worth it. :-/

Hopefully you'll be able to fix it yourself! Good luck!

What's going on with it? Chances are good that it is simply a power capacitor. If you need help let me know, I've worked on lots of this kinda stuff. The hardest thing is opening them lol

At 1st I thought it was the relay because when I turn it on I don't hear the relay click. But after reading some boards it seems to be the HDMI board. I just got to go home and confirm.

If you need a rework station, I've got a fairly good soldering station with hot air you are welcome to borrow.

When I bought mine i heard they ran hot. Heat kills electronics so I put a CPU fan on top of mine that kicks on when i power on the reciever.

Sweet! What did was broken?

Brandon

Something was bad on the HDMI board. There is a guy on eBay with 260 feedback @ %100 positive (hard to believe but true). So $75 later and a week I have a working receiver. He actually intercepted/bypassed one chip and wired on a small daughter board.

Nice! I've actually got 503 with 100% over 11 years. :D

So he soldered the board for you? That's pretty sweet.

Brandon

Yeah. Basically as he stated its the same thing onkyo does. Apparently there is some component that dies and they add a small board and reroute the pathways to it.
