What a nightmare! While the trade might've at one point been responsible now it's the savior! A black market trade for coral would be a disaster!!

I think growers should donate a percentage of there grow outs every so often back to the wild

This broad terminology that would end up grouping all kinds of corals that are not even on the list, is just a typical knee jerk reaction that will do nothing but cause more problems. The lack of scientific data and absolutely no research into the hobbyist side of the trade just shows how scary this really is. There are multiple mariculture operations springing up now, and being where we are on an environmental level, this may be the only way to repopulate the reefs. Not to mention all of the people that have been dedicated to the education and propagation of corals for decades now. Some have been growing the same corals for years and have been passing them on this way for a very long time.

A lot of folks will only buy named and lineaged aquacultured species, and some are just not really giving the maricultured side a chance. The collection of wild corals is an issue that needs to be looked at and dealt with in a real way, but it needs to be based on real facts.

In other words, the proposed listing may very well prohibit and criminalize the transport and trade of all Acropora and Euphyllia species, (whether wild -collected, maricultured or captive-propagated, including those existing in hobbyists’ aquariums at the time the regulation goes into effect), included those traded at frag swaps or between individual hobbyists, but may also prohibit moving one of these corals from one tank to another, or even taking a colony out of an existing aquarium for treatment, ect., and replacing it in the same aquarium.

Again, the way the ESA is enforced, there is a significant possibility that the proposed listing would be enforced, in effect, as to all corals in the respective genera, including all corals in the Acropora, Montipora, Euphyllia, Caulastrea, Pocillopora, Porities, Pavona, Pectina, Pachyseris and Seriatopra genera.

Its because activist lie and make.up false numbers to scare people. Namely snorkel bob or w/e his name is. There was a macna video from cpl years ago that i borrowed from Bart that had a speaker who was a big time coral and reef conservation activist who said. Its to late to save the reefs the only way to ensure.future survival of coral species is to propagate them in home aquariums and replant them in the future once the oceans are back to a stable good place. This is obviously a highly controversial opinion that i do agree with. The reefs are only getting worse and its much easier to control a tank than the ocean.
