I have an idea.
As such, I've sent messages to several leading SW "authorities" to see and to get their opinions on it.
Here's the thought
Know what an ASE rating is? Ever have your car repaired by a shop that employs, non-ASE mechanics? Ever have anything go wrong by one of these non-certified shops?
Why not establish a certification body for retailers, (Petco, etc), LFS employees and dealers of marine fish and corals?
Using such a certified dealer would dramatically REDUCE the FUD's of buying livestock. BTW, FUD's are, Fears, Uncertainties and Doubts!
Wouldn't you prefer dealing with a shop or friend for that matter, that has taken the time and the investment to better serve their customer?
The Government via the ESA, (Endangered Species Act), is striving EVERY DAY to limit the industry and the hobby of each any every American that wants to be a reefer. Wouldn't it add credibility to our industry to have such certification? Wouldn't it deflate those naysayers in Congress that we are a bunch of wildcat operators, decimating the reefs and oceans of the planet?
Would YOU pay a few dollars MORE with a dealer that had such a certification, having the piece of mind that you were dealing with a TRUE professional?
Ever use CARFAX?
