Outdoor (dead) live rock

One question that didn’t get answered, if and I mean on the very slight chance there was any palytoxin on the rock, will that cause a problem?

use gloves etc protocol. I recycled rock that I had dumped in the yard. Just changed the water every few days. The idea is to not only sanitize the rock but also to remove any dirt and organics. After a number of water changes (with either bleach or oxy) I started to brush rock clean, rinse and return to my cleaning bucket.

So I shouldn’t worry about it killing my fish or making an of my family sick. Because right now (thanks Coronavirus) is a really bad time to get palytoxin.

Definitely do not want to send you in the wrong direction. I would think that a bleach cure would work done outside with gloves and goggles but have not been in this situation

yeah, notwithstanding what reef squad has to add, you definitely want to cover up and do this outside to prevent from touching your body or inhaling.

Once you are sure the rock is clean, you can always run a media reactor with carbon to absorb any remaining toxins.

Ok. I’m like 98% sure the zoas never touched the rock, but I will wear gloves and do the work outside. And they were zoas, not palys, so IF there was any on there is should have come off while outside in the rain or when I soak and spray it.

Not really giving advice, but I've done it. Threw rocks outside after tearing down a tank or 2, had way too many tanks. Well later at some point decided to set up another tank. These rocks had collected dirt, debris, leaves, etc, I just rinsed them off really good and started my cycle, then ran carbon after the cycle before stocking. Absolutely no ill effects.

The whole bleach thing is really simple if you wanted to go that route. Just add a splash of bleach and let soak for a whike, rinse, then just add to water with declor(prime, etc), done.
