Outdoor Patio Reef Tank

Why ozone?
More effective than Carbon, carbon only helps for about a week, ozone clarifies the water continuously, carbon is just temporary.

Great idea!

Wish I lived in places with that kind of climate.

When you say carbon, you mean activated carbon to remove DOC.

I question water clarification in a reef tank using unstable ozone. Why not UV-C? Or better, consider oxygenetor using hydrogen peroxide. I much rather use O2 for oxidation instead of O3

After owning a Nano tank for 7 months, decided to deep dive into a full on mixed reef tank. We were building a new home and decided to make it an outdoor patio reef tank.
i had the aluminum stand custom built to support a large tank and house & hide all the equipment below. Went with a 93 Gall cube to keep the furthest away from any direct sunlight, since the house is North/South, it doesn't get any direct sun. My patio area is also screened in.

Custom plumbing & Electric. The Chiller was placed to the far right to exhaust the heat away from the tank.

6 Months into it, decided to add a 22 Gallon Frag Tank

Yes, you have to pay close attention for an outdoor tank, the Apex is a must!
I also keep back up pumps, and an extra 1/2 Chiller on standby. But with the right equipment, this tank is alot of fun!

Were else can you grill a steak, have a fridge with cold beers, and check out a mixed Reef Tank on your patio!

VERY VERY COOL and I want that outdoor kitchen and I do have room for it !!!

I have a shaded covered porch where I tried to run a 10g saltwater tank. The tank got up to 86. I think a large amount of water volume (55g>) is required as well as a chiller.

Having sink between display & frag tank is very practical. The stainless fixtures and stone floor are a real touch of class.

Is frag tank connected to display?

As a fellow Floridian, i pray that you have a plan in place for a hurricane... .Unique idea, no doubt. Not something i would have the stomach do though. Ive thought about putting a 55 gallon outside and making a Inter-coastal Waterway aquarium; consisting of species of fish/ and plants i encounter on my boat when im fishing or just cruising along the ICW. but i don't think i would put corals that costs money in there. I would never sleep!!! Best of luck with this!

Very nice tank. Wish you the best

Reef tanks are a lot of work inside , outside it must be double.
But it must be nice sitting outside at night watching your tank

@Rick Ginn

Just curious why the location of the tank is close to an outdoor kitchen work space....

Is there a dining table nearby to sit and look at the tank, enjoy the tank?

Just curious how much visibility the tank gets sitting among a work space.

Thinking the same thing. I know I spent more time inside than outside when I lived in south Florida.
I lived on the intercostal so bugs wasn’t too bad but I would image bugs would be an issue too most places. Big bugs

That's impressive ,what's the average summertime outside temp? I live in FL where its routinely I. The high 90s so I cant imagine what running the chiller would cost.
Agree.... Deep South outdoor tank would be near impossible. The heat is one thing but I’d have so many bugs floating in the top it’d be insane. Only good thing is, the humidity is so high, evaporation would be minimal.

That’s a very cool tank! Congrats!!

Most of my 1300g system is outside in the direct sunlight. The sun is the best thing available for coral/fish health and coral growth. Experiment with adding another frag tank to this system but put it outside in the sun - and you will really start enjoy what mother nature can do.
