Hi we have 2 outlet tubes one on either side of the tank. Would you recommend them both being towards the top of the tank or do you think it is better to have one near the top one side and one closer to the bottom the other side?

^^^This x 1000^^^The lower the drain line the more water will siphon when the pump shuts off.
NOT a best practice scenario.
Hi this is what we thought outlets should both be at top pointing towards the surface of the water. Can i ask about inlets how would you have these positioned?^^^This x 1000^^^
If anything, they should be angled up towards the surface to maximize oxygenation of the water, and ALWAYS check the backflow amount by turning all pumps off and allowing the water to drain down to the sump. If your sump can't handle all the water (and I prefer a 1-2" safety margin), your plumbing is wrong and/or your sump is too small. DO NOT rely on check valves of any sort - they WILL fail when you need them most causing a flood.
