this weekend i decided to run my skimmer airline tube to outdoor air to help stabilize the PH .. who else does this and hows it working for you ??

I was going to do this but since I got a case of the CO2 media (Soda lime) really cheap I went this route. Once I run out of media which seems to last a while for me I will probably run it outside. Since running soda lime I have seen my PH increase and now doesn't fluctuate as much as before. It stays in the 8.0 to 8.1 range where as before the media it would bounce all over from 7.8 to 8.2 range but I never chased the number and just made sure my CA, Alk & Mag stayed steady.

thanx eric .. can i ask where you got the media at .. yea before i did the outside air my PH would go from 7.8 to 8.2 all the time .. seems to be stable at 8.2 right now since i did this ..

I got it through a local guy actually getting out of the hobby and he had bought a case and used half of one bag so it was a no brainer for me to buy the rest as he gave me the canister and media for a cheap price. I had done a google search before that purchase came available and found a 5 gallon container and price was not too bad through a medical supply house and you can also search through SCUBA diving sites as they use it in most re breathers. The medical supply house I found was the cheapest for a 5 gallon pail and was around $70 with free shipping but that was a year ago. Just make sure the bucket is always sealed as if left exposed to air it will start exhausting the media.

I have been doing this for 4 months now due to the fact that the tanks are in the basement with limited oxygen and air flow. Now my ph is 8.2 all day. I run my frag tank and refuge reverse light cycle to my main DT. It helps allot. BRS carries the reactor and media cheap for the air line tube.

Years ago I had a similar issue with low pH. 75g DT was on 1st floor and sump was in the basement with the PS. Added a direct hose line to the outside and fed it into the PS and the pH definatly rose. Think it was like 0.2 or more if I recall.

hey jonn i was not dropping out PH but i was looking to keep it more stable .. now that i have done the outside air my PH has not dropped below 8.1 even at night .. n right after it rains i test my PH n its sets about 8.3 .. really liking the way this is working ..

I wonder why my ph is always at 8.0. my tank is in my man cave in a windowless basement.

If you are not able to put a vent fan or drill a hole for the breeding tube for PS you can always put a light kalkwasser mixture in you ato. I do this for my sps tank sometimes because it is so dam hot outside in NY that the air is not well oxygenated.
