I'm not really new to salt water tanks or reef just a bit rusty. I started with a 65 g many years ago but when I moved I decided I needed to relieve myself and the tank from the stress of a 100+ mile move. Anyway, I was recently given a 75 gallon reef tank and upon getting it home and trying to get the sump out of the stand bottom I discovered that my daughter and her friend had to actually move the tank off the stand so I could bring the sump through the top of stand. So while sitting here tonight dreaming of what this tank will become I got to thinking about the sump and how I was going to deal with it. After-all it needs to be removable in case something should happen, but I don't want to purchase a new sump. My brilliant idea is to get a rubbermaid tote with a lid and perhaps put the sump in it with holes cut into lid for hoses from overflow. I would put it behind stand where it was accessible to me but unseen by others. It would house the sump and protein skimmer. So is there any reason that I'm not seeing that this can't be done?

If I understood your question correctly I don’t see why this couldn’t be done. People out there sumps in different rooms ( fish room) all the time! If they could do that I see absolutely no reason why you can’t put your sump in a Rubbermaid behind the stand. Heck at that point I would just make the Rubbermaid the sump! By the way welcome back !

Thanks CurryB, you're right I could turn the Rubbermaid into the sump. I always try to make things more difficult! Yes it's good to be back. I missed my tank tremendously, but it meant a lot more to me than a tank, it had a lot of memories attached. Guess " they always come back! " right! I'm excited to go into the next phase. Psst, I'm still cleaning the tank, slowly buying necessary things which is all fun too.

Saltwater tanks are like potato chips, you can't have just one......;)
