Long story short this tank was left running and fed fish no maintenance at all. Forest of hair alage 4-7 inches long complete tank failure there was little swim space. But after 5 hours of my work I got it almost spotless had almost 1/4 of a 5 gal bucket filled with only hair alage it was the worst I seen, filter was hosed out and filter replaced on Penn cascade 700 canister filter and I also added the 1000 series so I have 2 filters now going( by choice Ik it won’t solve any problems) and of course my wave maker. Did a 30% water change and my nitrates still high any tips on how to bring this down? Besides consists water changes and keeping up on filter media is there any products that will help? Thanks.

Yes, switch to a HOB filter sized for your tank like a Seachem Tidal and replace the filter floss every 3-5 days. And you may need to look at something like NOPOX to gradually bring your nitrates down.

Water change treatment
1@50% =100 ppm
+
2@50% = 50 ppm
+
3@50% = 25 ppm

etc
