Does anyone plumb there over flow directly into there skimmer then the skimmer into a filter sock I have mine to a sock first then skimmer but I'm thinking if I switch it the water will be of better quality... what is everyone's tboughts

Skimmer pumps are setup to pull a certain amount of Air and Water, you do not want to overrun the skimmer with too much flow it will not skim well.
Besides that I have never seen a configuration like that even with re-circulating skimmer that requires water to be pumped in to it from a separate pump. If people are using filter socks they are always first. Some people run a sock on the output of the skimmer to minimize micro bubbles in the sump / dt but that is all I have seen with socks on skimmers.

Additionally I suspect that people want any ditritus that the sock can catch to not go through the skimmer pump or skimmer body, if it gets trapped in there it will cause problems.

We don't use filter socks. I do like the idea of the skimmer getting most of the overflow H20 first. We have a recirculating skimmer so I direct the overflow output right towards the pumps intake. Its all in the first chamber of the sump and seems to work well.
