Over flow solutions?

Does anyone have any tricks for blocking small animals out of an overflow box.We have a 150g so the overflow is 2ft tall,and plucking a clown goby and porcelain crabs from the bottom has become difficult.We still want the pods and mysis to be able to make the full loop.Ive tried eggcrate and plastic canvas( for crafts).Neither worked,it either let them through or stagnated and raised the water level.

multiple drain systems keep the flow spread out and keeps animals from being sucked up as much. Like a bean animal drain system.

I used plastic gutter guard in my CPR because I had fish getting sucked into it. Not sure how big of an area you are trying to cover but this may work for you also.

Thank you all for your ideas.I think the gutter guard holes will still be too large though.I thought of making a tray that fits into the top of the overflow and filling it with pellets or some old small bioballs.

What about the netting BRS sells? I used it to make a screen top for my tank, hole size in the netting is 1/4". Would that still be to large? My concern with filling with pellets or bioballs would be another maintenance task added.

Are they going through the slots or jumping over into the overflow? If jumping over +1 on the netting.

Yeah they make it over the top.No slots just glass.At least our clown goby decided the tank is nicer than the bottom of the overflow(it only took 3 times hanging out in there).We still have porcelain crabs and peppermints in there though.

you can make a top for the overflow. I had to do this with a wrasse that loved to jump into a overflow from time to time. make one out of plexglass with small pieces glued to the inside so it fit's tight. netting across the whole top of the tank is good too.
