Over flow tweaking

I have a strainer on it. Then I made this .. water level is higher than what I see on other peoples . Can you tell me what I am doing wrong . I drilled holes on the top of it . Help me .. it’s to loud and I can’t sleep . Genius me put it in my bedroom
