Over flowing skimmers

I am have problems with my protein skimmer over flowing the only thing I did was put new filter socks in and it went crazy and did a water change and raised the skimmer up and this has been going on for days now and I getting tired of it thing of buy new one but this is only a month old I am mad because I keep buy new stuff To make it easier to do but I am having no luck please help thank you in advance!!!!?????

Not a guaranteed fix, but I usually run protein skimmers at their lowest possible setting for at least a month before trying to dial them in to actual skim. I think even most manufacturers recommend a break in period before they start running correctly.

If that doesn't work then try playing with the amount of airflow going into the skimmer.

I have been trying that and it’s not working when I bought it and put in the was working the next day last week I only charged the filter socks that when it went haywire I don’t know what to do and don’t want my corals to die

From our experience, do not turn the skimmer on after the water change or sock filter change for around 10-mins or so...that will depend on your system. For our 190 system, we leave off for 10-mins, and our smaller system, around 50-gallon system for about 15-20 mins.

My system is 125 and I never had a problem before and it is going on a week now with the same issue

Brand new filter sock? Did you rinse it first? I'd just keep dumping off the foam and topping off the tank water level from what was lost until it stops. Good luck

Edit: Maybe lower it back to where you had it before it started doing this also...

Not an emergency. New socks can foul a skimmer for awhile. Ensure your air intake is wide open and your water outlet is wide open. If that does not work raise the skimmer up an inch in the sump.

I have to soak the new filter sock in RO water for at least 1 hr before switching. Just put 1 gallon in a bucket at push down into water for long soak. This prevents my skimmer from going nuts

Is it a BM Curve 5? That's what I have and while it doesn't explain the sudden change in output I did have to raise mine up significantly before it would work consistently.
IIRC it's about 5 inches off the sump floor, any lower and even at the lowest setting it would skim too wet.
This is it sat on a section of 4" pipe.
