Not to the tank, but it's possible for a skimmer to be too big to skim - a proper head of foam may not be able to form.
Doubt that's the case if the skimmer's manufacturer rating is just double the actual system (or tank) volume.
Another consideration is wet-skimming. It's a good way to maximize a skimmer's function, but (obviously) it takes out some water with the skimmate. Keep an eye on your salinity as you empty full skimmer cups...or just replace the skimmate with fresh-mixed seawater and treat it like a small water change.
