My clownfish were a bit skinny a couple weeks ago, and I was told I should feed them more, I was feeding them a total of 12 pellets a day, but now i’ve been feeding them 12 pellets in the morning and 12 at night each (0.5 pellets). The clownfish is starting to full out more now but I wokeup this morning and see my tank is very foggy, and I think this is either because overfeeding, bacterial bloom (tank is a few weeks old), or because it’s time to change my carbon. All my parameters are normal. Also I was wondering when they get fatter do I stop feeding them this much or continue?

Personally it doesn’t sound like too much food. A bacteria bloom isn’t unusual on a new tank. Check your phosphate/nitrate levels and have that be your guide for feeding more/less. Maybe dose some competing bacteria like microbacter7 or dr Tim’s.

I dont think its kind to feed them and then starve them. If they are eating all the food and none left over, then why feed less.

And I agree with above, feed different kinds of foods, its kinder and healthier. Dont be so stingy with the food.

Also, if time allows, feed the same amount of food but in more feedings. Again, only if time allows since most of us work full time and can only get 1-2 feeds in. As long as the clowns are eating all the pellets offered I don’t think that is too much for a daily amount. Your tank may just need to adjust to the new nutrient load

Try feeding some frozen mysis and brine shrimp. Use the pellets as treats instead of the main food.
Dry food contains alot of po4.
Its a balancing act to feed fish in a new system so go slow.
I have frozen mysis but they just spit it out. I’ve read that they tend to like brine shrimp more, should I try that and eventually start switching or should I starve until they eat mysis?

if you starve them you will stress them. More chance of disease etc... I never count exactly how much food I give. Also how old are your clown. Growing fish need more food.
12 pellets for 2 fish is only 6 pellets/fish. does not sound enough.

Try brine and go from their. They will take almost anything eventually. Try a varity of food as you go and keep them fed. Feed enough brine so they eat it all in one minite is a place to start.

It’s 12 per a fish at every feeding. So 24 per a fish in a day. They are also juveniles.
