How can I figure overflow volume for dual 1" overflows? I need to figure what size return pump I need and don't want to over consume my sump.

Awesome. That each right? I want to make sure I don't over power and definately not underpower when I purchase my return pump.

Yes, that is each. Now if you have them come into a Y or T, that is going to restrict the flow to a lower volume. Another thing to take into consideration is that you will have head loss, based on how high you are pumping and restriction from your return pipes.

what size tank?

I have a rio 26hd that is great on my 180 with 2 1" drains (ok maybe a little to much power)

After you figure out how much volume you want to move, and what size pump you want to use to move the water, considering going UP one size pump and put a valve on it. That will allow you to regulate the water flow and as the pump ages and decreases in performance, you can open the valve and get the same water flow.

Thanks everyone. I think I'm gonna go with a Mag 12 for my return. I'm building a 120 with dual 1" overflows and dual 3/4" returns. I'm using power nozzles on my returns in order to keep from having powerheads in the display tank. I'm figuring on around 430gph of flow per nozzle (I hope).

i had heard that putting a valve on an overpowered pump will wear the pump out faster, i may be wrong i have just heard that somewhat recently since i am currently looking for a return pump. if i am wrong feel free to correct my ignorance, i will take no offense to it
