Overflow and return holes sizing. How to calculate?

Hi guys, i was wondering how to calculate the holes and plumbing size for my project.

I want to convert a 16g §(64lt.) AIO to a sump system.

sump is 5G. (20lt)

I was thinking 2 x 30mm hole for the overflow (herbie style with adjust valve) and 1x20mm hole and a 2000lt (520gph) pump for the return. There is about 1.5m (5ft) of straight pressure. (sump is directly under display and the tank will be bottom drilled, so hopefully, no bend involved)

I usually go based on the outlet of the pump for my return and factor drain sizing based on the overflow.

Are you going to diy the overflow?

the idea is yes. I will make 3 hole in the bottom and send pipe straight up from there. 2 for drain and emergency drain and one for return.

As long as you have the correct size bulkheads to fit those holes i dont see an issue. Verify what size will fit in the holes you drill first

dunno, i've seen nearly all readymade overflow have bigger hole for drain
