Overflow box advice, plz.

I need to invest in a reliable overflow box for my 29g. I'm building a diy 10g sump and I am trying to get decent equipment without breaking the bank. I already bought the skimmer, even though I finally figured out that I could have just used the hob skimmer that's already running on it. whoops, but it won't go to waste.

So which brand(s) should I consider? Oh..and the return pump, how much gph do I want?

Then I am guessing you will have to get something like the CPR aquatics with aqua lifter pump. Return pump will have to matched to what ever size overflow you get.

and for return rate.
total water volume times return rate equals the size of pump.

30 dt + 15(?) sump = 45. 45 x 5 return = 225
225 gph pump for a 5x return rate.

Agreed. Even half of that would be OK, so 225 makes a nice target.

I would try to find somebody selling an Aqueon brand... Or any other traditionally built overflow. I have not had great experiences with Eshops build quality, but if that's all you have available locally then it would be OK. Just make sure you leak test it and do many power off tests for your tank after installing it – make sure it works and does not lose siphon.

So many choices! I'm looking on Amazon & Ebay now, between the two I should find something. I have a local LFS but he has a very limited stock of equipment. Thanks for the input. Very helpful.

Get it from this guy. Super cool and super nice guy. I've used his on two tanks same size. super nano with teeth on both a 20 and 40 gallon.

It's super easy to drill, i did it on a 22 gallon, just have the bit spinning and slowly apply pressure so it cuts evenly and he also sends you a piece of wood to line it up so you cant miss haha
