Does anyone have any experience with this overflow or have a good suggestion for an overflow box? Tank is a 40 breeder

The weir teeth on those Eshopps Eclipse overflow boxes are cut fairly deep, so if the holes aren’t drilled high enough, the waterline will show beneath the tank trim on rimmed tanks. Drilling high enough often doesn’t work as the exterior box is impeded by the exterior trim. Take a look at Modular Marine overflows. They are built with a notched rear external box to accommodate the tank trim so you can mount it high enough to hide the waterline behind the tank trim.

I use their 1200 gph overflow box on my tank. Their standard 1200 gph overflow is set up for 3/4” plumbing using uniseals. I had mine upgraded to 1” plumbing using 1” bulkheads. Here it is installed on my tank, which is a 57 gallon rimless. It has the same footprint as a 40 breeder at 36x18.

The waterline being seen was a point of concern. Ive seen where people used the template on the inside and drilled from the inside of the tank. I’m worried about the trim on the outside. Ill check out modular marine overflows now.

The work around for the deep cut teeth on the Eshopps Eclipse overflow is to solvent weld an acrylic strip on the inside of the weir box to shorten up the teeth.
