Planning a 40 gallon breeder mixed reef with 20 gallon long sump and am curious about the effect of the weir length/width. I'm planning a bean animal type overflow with the plumbing on the outside and the overflow/weir on the inside/wet side of the tank. Considering going with Modular Marine's 1600 gph overflow, and having them modify it for 1" bulkheads all the way around. The weir box is 16" in length, but I would prefer something smaller. More like 10" - 12". What effect or advantage would a smaller length weir box have over a longer length?
