Hey guys I have the overflow box pictured here and for some reason it's quite loud and I'm not sure how to quite it down I've tried a few different things but still always hear water trickling in to the black box part,, do I not have the box low enough in my tank, is my return pump not strong enough any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Thanks
Tony

Possibly too much water going through it. What is the gph on your return pump? When i set my overflow up (granted its a drilled overflow instead of a hang on like yours) it was noisy because i had too much flow running through it so i turned down my return pump and quieted it up quite a bit.

Unfortunately that's the nature of that overflow, noise, noise, noise. You can try slowing the flow down from the return pump.

My return pump is 1200gph and I think the overflow is 800gph

My second tank had one of these on there and I've used this kind of overflow for 8 years. I ran a Mag 500gph and that was alot of flow If your tank is 50 gallons I wouldnt run more than 200-300 gph and if it 100gallon then 400-500gph. Make sure to use a prefilter this helps alot.

I have the eshopps 1200 2 bulk 1 inch . My husband had to make a bigger tube in the middle of the black sponges. Cutting down your flow will make less water in your sump also can cause issues if your system stops running.

What do you mean make a bigger tube like bigger in diameter or length, could you post a picture

Thanks

if you extend the tube up from the black sponge and put a cap on it with a hole drilled in the middle, then run some air line down the hole keep going until it becomes quiet

Thanks just watched it, it seems quieter then mine I'll have to give that a try it to tomorrow

Thanks again
No problem I asked this same question last night. Since it was driving me nutz. Every one was suggesting good things but nothing worked. The polytubing is pushed down in the bulkhead as far as it can go btw. Forgot to mention that

Cool I'll try that,, what size poly tube did you use

Do a search for "gurglebuster".

This was one I did in Japan so the measurements were metric but will give you an idea. It made a huge difference.

Edit: this replaces the drain tube in the external overflow box.
