Was wondering your thoughts on a great internal overflow box for bean animal style plumbing. I was looking at eshopps, synergy reef shadow overflow, or modular marine. Any suggestions and opinions welcome!

Any of the above should serve you well.

I'm using CA's 'H2Overflow', with a custom outside box. Works well for me.

Hear lots of good stuff about Synergy and Shadow. Most EShopps equipment is reasonably solid.

I highly recommend EMS, I have one and love it. Modular marine might be a good choice as well, I hear good things.

Avoid the synergy reef shadow like the plague. It does not work as advertised. Mine had broken parts before I even assembled it. I have gotten zero help from the company. I had to have EMS build me a custom replacement to salvage my brand new tank which had been drilled for the shamdow.

I am not alone in having issues with the shadow overflow and synergy reef.

I'm getting an Exotic Marine overflow delivered today. Planning to do a thread on it in the next week or so. I've been working with Taylor since Nov. I'd sent him the template I got from Planet aquarium that I forwarded to him. He sent me a template to compare to the holes in my tank. They were slightly off so I did some measurements based on the template. He sent a second template that was right on. I received the second template about three weeks ago. What I liked about these is the outside box it a little higher than the internal. I think with most others the outside is lower. When the outside is lower it creates a loud waterfall noise in the internal box. I've had to raise the water level in the external box as high as possible to minimize the noise. With the external box being higher it'll be easier to adjust the water level so there's no waterfall.

Just traded my synergy reef overflow for a modular marine and was glad I did. Synergy is injection molded, and I didnt trust the flimsy plastic... just me. Modular marine looked great and strong, and I will install it on my new tank very soon. I also made a thread about overflows and a lot of people put good info on brands I had never heard of, I will link it.

Where did you get your modular marine from?

I have an EMS that's built solid. It's not in use because I broke the tank it was going to go on... (sigh don't ask). I have a eshopps M overflow box that works... but the water falling over the teeth is pretty loud if you push any real flow through your return pump... plus you will almost be guaranteed to see the waterline if you use it on a rimmed tank.

I've read more bad than good on the synergy, but I have no personal experience with it so take that for what it is...

I've read good things about modular marine, other than it can take a little bit to get your overflow. Took me several weeks to get my EMS in, but I did order it during peak holiday season. I'll also add that it was more of the fault of USPS as it took them 9 days to deliver a package that was like a 6 hour drive away...

It was recommended by many on the thread I made, and it was 1/4inch acrylic.. that is what sold me.

The exact one I bought.

@dantimdad just got one from Modular Marine. I believe he loves it but, hopefully, he'll let you know himself.

I did a lot of research for my new tank, and decided on modular marine. Happy with the decision, built tough and works as advertised. I got an off the shelf 16” model for my 75g, but they do custom work if needed.

Mine is from Fiji Cube. It's awesome!

Good construction, easy to install and looks great.

I highly recommend their sumps as well.

Ooops...
