Overflow box with refugium

Will this work any advice will be well appreciated thanks in advance and what about the size of the overflow box interior and exterior

OK something about this drawing I really like...

now on the the reefing stuff. looks like you plan to use a HOB overflow from the fuge to the sump? big point of failure. if you must use a HOB get the one from life reef only one I would ever trust.

but why not make it simple drill the tank and use an overflow back in the the sump?
have you thought of an ATS could sit on your 55 gal sump.
BTW I think a 40br is a better size for the sump you will thank me later or the new 60br they just came out with.

i believe per sq inch of space ATS do a better job. IDK just a thought.

Only problem I really see is the second overflow. If you lose siphon (rare but possible) you are asking for trouble.

if you want 2 tanks underneath, possibly run two overflow drain lines into each one, or just use a larger than 55g sump and use one tank. I have a 125 with a 40 under it, is plenty of room, and allows for excess water to fill in event of emergency

also I am sure you already are against it if planned this far, but why not drill your tank? An overflow box on a 125 going to require a lot of gph to really filter it well.

Not sure what ATS means sorry. I was coming up to drill never done it before. Other doing that you think everything is okay what about the Sun over phone box and the main tank and anything else you can think of

Yes I plan on putting a ATS on there I currently have a 75 going made one for it but never did use it so I will probably try it on the 125

Size is huge didn’t look that closely at first. I would love to see the finished product. If you can pull 1500 gph from the display with a DIY HOB overflow, there would be many to follow suit im sure.

one other thing is the taller the stand the better allows for more room for your elbows

so is the DT driller for overflow then? I am not sure I am fallowing here.
the thinker the glass the easier it is to drill. I have don it on 2 40br the trick is going slow add water and set the clutch on the drill so it does not bind up. there are a slew of YT vids out there.

it DT is not drilled IMHO just get a lifereef overflow box they will never lose siphon and will start back up if power goes out. simple and easy no drilling needed.

if you plan to use a ATS then there is no need for a fuge its one or the other. i would do a 40/60BR tank for the sump silicone in some baffles or get the fancy fiji cube insets if you got the cash and want that look . then mount the ATS on top of the sump. then use the rest of the stand space for ATO res. or controller board etc.

Yeah but that's a good chunk of change that I don't have to spend I have some extra plexiglass probably enough to make it off except for the interior box which I will make black

So you think my measurements are too big or not big enough should I split it up and do two in the corner or just stick with the one in the center

I can’t accurately speak to measurements and GPH. My only overflows are drilled, conversion factor probably available but I’m not intelligent enough to get through it.
If you want 1500 gph to go thru your fudge, aim for 2000 gph and place a ball valve. The great thing about overflows is they only have to be tuned one way. They will accept any level of flow from 0-max GPH. The problem happens when you’re pushing 1500 gph back into your tank and pulling 1400 gph out. Then it overflows

one in the middle, or two in the corner. I think 2 in the corner would look better. But it is just whatever makes you happy to look at.
