Currently in planning stages for a 72"x30"x24" peninsula. (the 24" height may go up to 30", but that is up for discussion as well).

First - what is the best overflow, regardless of aesthetics? Internal or external?
Second - if internal I believe I can have the cabinetry around it go into the tank to cover, so I would still just see the edge of the overflow box instead of the edge of the tank itself.

For what it's worth - the sump will be in my basement so space around/under the tank does not come into play.

Does anyone have pics of what they have done with a Peninsula tank?
thanks!

H2Overflows and SiphonStopper returns.

The Overflows I like. Nearly silent, take up very little room in the tank, adjustable, easy to clean, can handle a great deal of flow...

The Returns? Not so much. You could build something out of black PVC that would work as well, or better, for a whole lot less money. I had to seriously adapt these to make them work for me. Don't waste your money.

Photo from just after my daughter had painted my stand, but it shows the overflows pretty well. Back side of that wall has a custom made acrylic external overflow box and BeAnAnimal style drop tubes.

I’d like some updates on this please I’m looking at building a peninsula similar. I saw a video of the h2overflows and it didn’t do justice to how much noise they make. He may have had camera right on top but it sounded like Niagara falls. Seriously thinking of using them if I can hear them in action.

I recently retired mine. Not because of noise... The noise the H2Overflows make is going to depend a good deal on what is on the other side of the glass. If you run them straight to a down tube with no noise mitigation, yeah, they're going to be noisy. Any overflow would.

Mine run (or ran, rather...) from the tank, through the wall, as pictured above. On the back side, they run into a custom acrylic overflow box with a BeAnAnimal style 3 tube drain from there to the sump.

The H2Overflows come with a set of big washers that you can use to reduce flow slightly, if they're gurgling. I did have to run one of their washers the whole time I was using mine. No big deal, though.

I recently wanted to lower the water level in my tank slightly. Was never happy with it, splashed every time I cleaned the glass, etc. Anyway, I didn't want to cut such an expensive piece of plastic off without KNOWING how much I wanted to trim, so...

I bought a pair of low profile strainers from the Uniseal Warehouse. BRS sells the same thing, but they're quite a bit more expensive, and the point was to do this cheap... Anyway, I bought a pair of these:

I then trimmed half of the socket adapter off, and swapped out the H2Overflows for these. I figured they might make some noise, but it was a way to play with the tank water height, see where I really wanted it...

These, with my overflow box, at the rate I'm flowing through my sump, are dead silent. Can't hear a thing. They take up MUCH less room in the tank, flow the same amount of water, and the price can't really be compared.

So... Yeah, I liked my H2Overflows, but specifically in my case, I found something I like better :D

Enjoy!

I installed a Synergy Reef overflow and am pretty happy with it. It's pretty quiet and works well.
