Does anyone know where (if made) I can get some plugs to temporarily plug my overflow holes? I do not have bulkheads installed at this time. I want to fill my tank and test it with water. It has been sitting in my garage for two years. I found one for the 1" hole at HD, but nothing for the 1-1/2" hole yet. I do not have a stand built yet so I can't put bulkheads in with stand pipes and test that way. Thanks.

Do you have the 1.5" bulkheads? You could install them and then install a union on your standpipe and cap the other side of the union.

I do not have the bulkheads yet. But my thought is if they are installed I will not be able to sit the tank on the garage floor for filling as they would stick out from the bottom of the tank to far unless I installed them opposite of what you normally would install a bulkhead. I don't know if they will hold water that way or not. Can you install bulkeads backwards/upside down so to speak? Zachxlutz, do you happen to have a 120 gallon with dual overflows? That is the tank I have and I have been kicking around how I am going to plumb my overflows an returns. How do you have yours set up? If that is what you have. Thanks for the input!

Ahhh.... the bottom of your tank is drilled, I assume. Hm. My tank is drilled on the back glass and I was thinking about how I would have done that. Sounds like a little different situation than you're in. My tank is plumbed as shown:

If its a rimmed tank, turn the bulk heads upside down and use a threaded pipe plug with tape on the inside of the tank to plug off the hole. If its rimless you'll have to build a stand. I'd build a stand anyway. Why are you sitting it on the garage floor to fill?

Yes, bottom drilled. But I think your setup answers one of my concerns of have two drains and one return piped together. Thanks for the input and help.

If this is only to test water tightness, just fill it to the top of the weir on the overflow box. If there's no water going through the overflow, you don't really need to cap the holes at all. Actually, it's probably a good idea to check that the reef-ready box is water tight anyway by not filling over the teeth...
