overflow noise

im trying to silence my overflow. its not the down pipe thats loud its where the water comes out and gos into the sump. dose any one have an idea on how to silence the water going into the sump.
 
make a reverse durso, quiet as a church mouse!

This Images is not mine, but my setup is just like it minus the tubing which is not necessary.

Are you are talking about the splashing in the sump?

Just use a filter sock and make the pipe long enough to just about touch the water in the sock.
It will still make some noise but be a lot quieter.
 
WOW that's a new one for me!!!! I never thought of doing that at the sump. COOL!!!

I knew what a Durso was, but not a Reverse Durso.
You learn something new every day...
 
thanks guys i think ill be looking in to a reverse durso. i made one on my frag tank but it was still loud but that prob cause i didnt add a cap with a hole in the top.
 
When you make the reverse durso, make sure that the stand pipe goes below the water, it will be almost completely quiet.
