In the event of a return pump losing power....how does an oveflow cut off? I want to set up a 20 gallon with a 10 gallon sump in my office (no access on weekends) but my concern is flooding my office should the power cut off ot the return pump fail. Any advice/guidance would be great.
My home tank has a HOB refugium...so no risk of overflowing in an outage.

The key is having the return to the tank near the waterline, and when the pump turns off, the water backs into the sump. Set the water level in tje sump low enough to handle that much water, and you’re all set

You can drill a small hole in the bend (90 degree pvc?) if that is the return, so when pump stops, there is no suction to backflow..... but those can get clogged and fail

I use Spears check valve on my return line. You just have to make sure you keep them clean
