Overflow Question

Do I need to worry about my overflow clogging? I have a 7 month old peninsula. I'm noticing a lot of Coralline algae growing in and around the overflow. Will this actually block water from flowing into my sump? Is this a potential flood hazard? I have a small toothbrush that I use to try and keep it clean, but this obviously doesn't work on the coralline. This is my first tank with sump. Do other clean the coralline out of the overflow? How?

It could block flow in extreme cases. I clean mine off about once a year
