I cut the huge bulky glass coast to coast overflow (that had 4 drains) off the inside of this 225g glass cages tank. I bought a much sleeker acrylic overflow and originally planned to use the overflow I cut off the inside on the back of the tank as an external overflow. Tonight I got to wondering why I couldn’t just do this? Obvious pros is it’s less work and obvious con is I would only run 2 2” drains instead of running 3 1-1/2” with one being an emergency.

You could do it if the overflow is glass. But its a skilled and very involved process with no room for error or your tank could crack.
