Hi, I'm the proud owner of a new Red Sea reefer 170. But I've got some questions:

The RS overflow is a Herbie style if im correct. I tried to get a trickle down the emergency drain but I can't get it to be stable, it fluctuates a lot.
Resulting in the return chamber not being stable -> I Can't use my ato as it will mess up the salinity because it will think water evaporates but is actually rising in the overflow chamber.

If I ever get a stable level will the water level be the same after a power outage / return pump power off or do I need to find that "sweet spot" again?

Sometimes you have to wait for a film to establish on the interior of the plumbing to be "more stable".
Then you get better results but the Red Sea tanks do have this problem.

Interesting, assuming the pump speed isn't changing there shouldn't be a reason for the water level to change. How long are you waiting between making adjustments on the drain valve? Small adjustments can lead to big changes. What happens when your drain valve is wide open?

Long term, you could look into replacing the RS plumbing with standard and an an accompanying gate valve. It's what many Red Sea owners do as the included valve is hit or miss over time.
