I'm looking into a small Lagoon tank from Reef Savvy (48x20x12). I'm not sure what to do on overflows. The tank is against the wall, the left side will rarely be viewed.

Their ghost overflow is the most popular, but not sure it makes sense since I want all four sides clear and the tank is only 12" tank. I need to get more information from Reef Savvy on the Hybrid Overflow
  • Hybrid Overflow in back left. The hybrids I've seen online have two holes. Having an emergency drain seems important (like my Red Sea Reefer)
  • Hybrid Overflow in each corner (more surface skimming)
  • Overflow covering the entire 20" left side (peninsula style, better surface skimming)
  • Ghost overflow on back
  • Ghost overflow on left side
I think external plumbing will ruin the look, but may colored PVC might look good. I think a single hybrid overflow in the back left is the most minimal & ELOS like. With a 12" tall tank, I'd like the water level as high as possible.

My buddy (username Clearwater here) had Lee Mar(when they were still in business) notch a one inch weir into the back panel. The actual back glass pane functions as a coast to coast weir, with no internal overflow. Plumbing was setup as a Bean on the external overflow which was secured to the tank with Momentive RTV 103. It’s pretty rad, and I’m kinda wishing I’d done the same with mine. Just a thought.

You could do a center overflow if you're looking for viewing from all sides, I've spoken to reef savvy about a potential build that included that in smoked glass and they said it shouldn't be a problem.
