Overflow to sump plumbing help

Hi all,

I have been in the process of starting up my first tank. It’s an aqueon 75 with an internal overflow. I bought the tank used A couple months ago and have been working on things on the side when I have time. everything is coming along nicely, however I have a question about The connection from my overflow drain pipe to the sump. It seems the previous owner just put the drain pipe into the elbow without a seal. Is this proper? Wont this leak? I wanted to get an opinion before I were to glue the pipe in. What should I do? attached a few pics for reference. Thanks.

Depending how many gph your return is pumping. If you use pvc glue then its going to be permanent in case you need to remove it later in the future. I would just use silicone. That way it stays put and with a little muscle you can remove it later

Kind of skeptical of gluing, in case I would need to get to it in the future. First tank, so I don’t really know how often I would need to mess with it, if at all.

The worst case senário is you cut it and install a new bulkhead.. any other option will give you problems in the future.. and the original seller prob didn’t glue it because he was going to sell it.
