I'm setting up a 130g tank (3'x3'x2') and will have a bean animal style ext. overflow. i plan on building a sump out of a 40g breeder tank (36 L x18w x16 h). How much gallons should I plan in case i have a power outtage and causes and overflow from my tank to the sump? I dont want a flood in my house.

I calculated about 11-12 gallons. If i use a 40b, how would you determine 12 gallons?

you can go to the tank volume calculator on the home page and enter 36 for L and 18 for w and then I entered 5 inches for W so it was 14 gallons. You would need to keep your water level in your sump at least 5 inches from the rim.

Length x width x heighth divide by231 this gives you overall volume once you have that number divide it by the heighth again and it will tell you how many gallons per inch... Hth..
